The design of the “Domenico Fontana and the inventions of many works” exhibition
Identity, exhibit design and interaction for the exhibition curated by the Archivio del Moderno in Switzerland and staged at the Pinacoteca Züst.
An image that reinterprets
some 16th-century visual elements
Garaldina typeface, Mannerist swallowtail closures and figures of craftsmen at work on the construction sites: these are the visual ingredients reinterpreted to create a contemporary exhibition image with a historical flavor.
Multimedia in service of information
The large amount of data gathered by scholars on Fontana's work required the use of multimedia to make it accessible to visitors. Touch displays let visitors explore all the craftsmen who worked on his construction sites, and a video mapping shows the active sites in Rome and Naples during our architect's career.
The story of architecture
that no longer exists today
Some of Fontana's most significant works have been lost over the years. Through the reconstruction of the spaces
(both 2D and 3D) and motion design work on them, visitors can now see and understand these projects that can no longer be visited.
Visiting architecture far from the exhibition venue
Virtual tours allow visitors to move around inside Fontana's buildings, linger on details, get closer to particulars and explore key points through dedicated content. This way, places hundreds of kilometers away can be visited by walking just a few steps.
Building
an articulate narrative
With the goal of making the narrative clear and understandable, a strong hierarchy was created among the graphic elements: from set design to captions, through section titles, wall texts and signage, every element is designed to convey its relevance within the exhibition's narrative.
